Annual Report 2021 – Contents

Year 2021 in brief

In 2021, the NAS admitted 243 new clients. Of these, 28 clients were minors at the time of entering the NAS, twice as many as in previous years, when the number of new minor NAS clients varied between 10 and 14.

One-third of all the new clients reported having fallen victim to human trafficking as minors even if they had entered the NAS as adults. Read more about this topic in the NAS press release (21 January 2022). More information about human trafficking targeted at minors can be found here

Of the new clients, 97 were identified as having fallen victim to human trafficking in Finland. Those who had fallen victim to human trafficking in Finland were in most cases residing in the country under a residence permit, although some of the victims were Finnish citizens or asylum seekers as well as persons without legal residence.

As in previous years, the most salient form of human trafficking was related to labour exploitation, which was identified in the restaurant, cleaning and construction business, among others.

The number of clients in the NAS on 31 December 2021 was 1,132.
